Michael Bell - Tooting

Artist Statement:

My painting, titled 'Tooting' is one painting from my "The London Underground" series of paintings. There are 15 pictures in this suite.

I was in London in 2023 and caught The Tube across town a lot. And as a tourist, Tube station names sounded exotic to me. Places like Tooting, Swiss Cottage, Blackfriars and Cock Fosters... These names certainly conjured up vivid pictures in my mind. My final paintings on this subject ended up not depicting anything really specific to each place. The name was really a trigger to an idea.
