My painting, Painting Place, Summer, was made in January 2025 in Tambaroora.
I made this work en plein air looking down onto the creek that was flowing. I wanted to make a very direct painting that captured this moment and the palette that is unique to this place.
Artist Statement:
My painting was made in the heat of summer in January 2025, in Tambaroora.
Tambaroora is near Hill End in the Central West of NSW. In January we had torrential rain that filled the bone dry creek that was flowing rapidly transforming the landscape. It's a somewhat forlorn landscape that was once home to a huge community of people during the Gold Rush in the 1860's. Water brings this landscape to life and birds and other wildlife were more present last summer. I felt I really got to understand this area during my time painting here. My paintings are about time passing, not one particular time or time of day as when Im working everything is constantly changing. I hope to bring not only my observations to the work but also an emotional response to place.
