  • Printable Christmas Stocking Templates (pages 4 to 5)
  • Selection of Coloured Paper, A4 - we used Livano Light Card and Fabriano Tiziano Paper
  • UHU Glue Stick
  • Scissors or X-acto Knife
  • Cutting Mat (if using X-acto Knife)
  • Tape
  • Tombow MONO Permanent Adhesive Runner

How to do it

  1. Print Christmas stocking templates (pages 4 to 5) onto plain A4 paper.
Cut around the outlines provided (leaving a clear border around the edges), before placing on the corresponding coloured card and sticking down along the edges with tape to secure it. Use your scissors or X-acto knife to cut out all the elements on coloured card.
Tip: For ease-of-use, you can also use a Tombow MONO permanent adhesive runner to help stick the edges of the template to the coloured card.
  2. Stocking and Heel Construction:
Using the outlines on the printed templates, cut out your required shapes. Laying Part D down as the base, glue Parts A and B on top of it with UHU glue to secure. Select a stitching style for Part C from the two options provided (squared or rounded stitching) and using the curve of Part B (the heel) as a guide, glue down the stitches.
  3. Stocking Pattern Construction:
Cut out the zig zag outlines in Part B and glue down on top of Part A, making sure to line up the edge of Part B to the outer edges of Part A.
  4. Candy Canes Construction:
Glue down the red candy cane elements (Parts B and D) to the candy cane bases (Parts A and C respectively, using the first page of the template guide as a reference for how to space the candy cane stripes out.
  5. Gingerbread Man Construction:
Carefully cut out the gingerbread man, and gently press on his arms from behind to lift them up from his body so he looks like he is holding them out. Glue down his face details and button (Part B), followed by his bowtie (Part C).
  6. Candy Canes Construction:
Glue down the red candy cane elements (Parts B and D) to the candy cane bases (Parts A and C respectively, using the first page of the template guide as a reference for how to space the candy cane stripes out.
  7. Christmas Stocking Assembly:
Take your gingerbread man and slide his arms over the top of the main stocking body (‘Stocking and Heel’) before gluing down the bottom of his body behind it. Once done, arrange your candy canes and secure them to the back of the stocking as well beside your gingerbread man.

Want to make your own unique stocking?
Cut out ‘Stocking and Heel’ Part D from blank white card before decorating with your own design. Sequins, glitter, texture paint – anything goes and your only limit is your imagination! For best results when using paint, use a thicker card stock or watercolour/mixed media paper to minimize buckling.
