Pebeo Marbled Fabric Cushion Covers

27 June 2025

Create your own Marbled Fabric Cushion Covers with Pebeo Marbling Paints & Marbling Bath.

What you will need

  • Fabric Cushion Cover
  • Pebeo Marbling Bath 45ml - this is an additive used to thicken water. Prepared in advance, the thickener bath solution enables more control and manipulation of colours and patterns when marbling.
  • This Project used: Marbling 45ml Cyan, Marbling 45ml Ultramarine Blue, Marbling 45ml White
  • Jug or bowl for mixing marbling solution
  • Whisk to mix marbling solution
  • Large tray to place prepared marbling solution in
  • Plastic insert to place into cushion cover if only one side or part of the fabric is to be marbled
  • Drying area

Top Tip – it is recommended that your fabric is washed, dried and ironed prior to Marbling.

How to do it

Step 1

Prepare the thickening bath in advance, following the label instructions.

Step 2

Pour a layer of gel 1-2cm thick into a large tray. Allow solution to rest for 2 hours.

Step 3

Using the dropper built into the lid, carefully place selected Pebeo Marbling colours onto the surface of the bath. For more contrast, alternate between light and dark paint colours.

Step 4

Allow the drops to spread for a few seconds on the surface. This helps the paint settle and prepares it for manipulation.

Step 5

Use a stick to gently work the colours. You can orient the paint in different directions to create varied marbling effects, such as pebbles or combed spots. To create concentric spots, simply place the drops of colour one inside the other.

Step 6

Once the marbling has been created, carefully place the fabric to be decorated, on the surface of the coloured bath.

Step 7

Place the decorated cushion cover on a flat surface and allow to air dry.

Step 8

Once dry, the designs can be heat-set using an iron, making them permanent and washable without compromising fabric softness.
