Matisse Low Viscosity Gesso is a great medium for preparing your canvas or other chosen surface for painting with oils or acrylics. This gesso is specially formulated for artists who prefer a creamier, lower viscosity primer application than traditional gessos and removes the need to thin the gesso before application.
With a bright white, low tooth, flat finish, Matisse Low Viscosity Gesso is easy to apply with a brush or knife. It will remain flexible once dry, while protecting your surface and preparing it to accept acrylic or oil paints.
To use, apply straight out of the container to a clean, dry surface. It is recommended to apply at least 2 coats of gesso, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. This will allow for maximum colour adhesion and protection for your artwork.
If painting with oils, it is recommended to seal your surface first with Matisse Matt Medium or Matisse Clear Sealer, then apply at least 3 coats of gesso on top of this. This will ensure the oils in your paint do not seep through to the canvas itself.
