Jo Sonja's Gesso is a flexible acrylic ground, useful for preparing surfaces prior to painting with acrylic or oil. The use of gesso to prepare your surface will prevent oil and acrylic paints losing moisture though absorption as well as providing tooth for the surface, allowing greater paint adhesion.
Jo Sonja’s Gessos are suitable for use on canvas, wood, plywood, and more. The grit will have a slight levelling effect that is perfect for preparing inferior surfaces or rough edges.
To use Jo Sonja's Gesso, apply straight from the tub onto a clean, dry surface using a brush or paint roller. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next coat, and the gesso may be sanded between coats for a smoother finish. Sanding is also recommended on the final coat, prior to painting, if you wish for a smooth and even surface to work on. If desired, a hair dryer can be used to speed up the drying process between coats.
If you wish to apply your gesso with an airbrush, thin the gesso with a flow medium, starting at a ratio of 1:1 and adding more flow medium until the desired viscosity is reached.
Clean up of Jo Sonja’s Gessos is simple with just soap and water to remove any excess gesso from skin or equipment.
The gesso may be used instead of, or as well as, Jo Sonja’s All Purpose Sealer.
