Coates Willow Charcoal sticks deliver the full monochrome spectrum from extreme blacks to gentle greys.

Based in the heart of the Somerset countryside of England the Coate family has been commercially producing willow since 1819 and using it to create artist charcoal since the 1960s.

Willow grows quickly, taking only one season to grow tall enough to be ready for harvest, the willow is grown from renewable willow beds. Willow beds provide food and shelter for many species of birds and animals during the summer months in Somerset, with willow growing becoming part of the rich environmental heritage of the area. In these conditions, Coates Willow Charcoal is produced. A premium product, it takes 3 days to turn raw willow sticks into willow charcoal ready for the artist to use.

The intense blackness of natural willow charcoal makes it a perfect drawing tool and has been used by artists for centuries. Coates Willow Charcoal sticks deliver the full monochrome spectrum from extreme blacks to gentle greys.

Available in a range of sizes, the thin sticks are suitable for details and line work and the larger sizes are ideal for covering large surface areas.
