Derivan Screen Fabric Inks have been specifically formulated for printing on fabrics and tie-dyeing, making them a great choice for your home or classroom fabric projects!
The water-based and non-toxic formula makes these Fabric Inks suitable for all ages to use at home, in the classroom, or studio. For the best results, use Derivan Screen Fabric Inks on absorbent fabrics that have been pre-washed prior to printing. This removes any size or softeners which can impact the print quality.
Derivan Screen Fabric Inks are intermixable, allowing you to create even more colours for your fabric projects! For more translucent shades on light coloured fabrics, or for interesting layering effects, Derivan Screen Fabric Inks can be added to Derivan Screen Reducer to make them less opaque. The white and metallic colours in the range are opaque, with the remaining colours a more transparent formulation. When printing colours onto a darker fabric, it's recommended to mix them with white or screen print a white underneath them first.
Derivan Screen Fabric Inks can also be used for tie-dyeing. For this, simply add 1 heaped teaspoon of table salt to a tub of 250ml ink and stir thoroughly until the mixture has altered to a thinner, runny consistency. Water can then be added prior to tie-dyeing at approximately one part ink mixture with ten parts water.
Once dry on your fabric, Derivan Screen Fabric Inks should be heat set to colour fix and become wash proof. Apply even heat using an iron on the reverse side of the printed fabric with a tea towel over the top for around five minutes. Do not iron directly on the printed design. The heat setting of the iron should be relevant to the fabric used. Once heat set, the ink has excellent lightfastness and rub resistance.
The Derivan Screen Fabric Inks are water-based. All screens, tools and hands can be cleaned with just soap and water!
