Derivan Watercolour Ground Absorbent Primer lets watercolour artists turn any surface into one you can paint on! The Watercolour Ground creates a paper-like absorbent surface with tooth, giving you the freedom to make watercolour artworks on canvas, board, and even non-porous surfaces like glass, metal, ceramics, and more.
Derivan Watercolour Ground has a thin viscosity, making it easy to apply with a brush or roller. If you’re after a more textured surface to work on, apply the ground with a hog-hair brush or a palette knife.
To apply Derivan Watercolour Ground, first make sure your surface is clean and dry. If working on a wood surface, lightly sand it before application. If you’re working on a canvas, apply at least one layer of gesso prior to the Watercolour Ground, and allow to dry. Once this is done, simply apply a thin layer of Derivan Watercolour Ground to your surface! For a more absorbent surface, apply an additional 1-2 layers, allowing each layer to dry and cure for 24 hours. It’s recommended applying a maximum of 3 coats.
Once primed, your surfaces will have a paper-like quality that watercolour paints can easily stick to, so you can have even more creative freedom with your watercolour artworks. Derivan Watercolour Ground is also archival and acid-free, so your artworks will endure over time when properly cared for.
