The Jacquard Cyanotype Sensitizer Set is the original sun-printing process and distinctive for producing rich, Prussian blue monochromatic prints. It can be used to create detailed prints from virtually any object that casts a shadow: tools, toys, plants, leaves, stones, sand, string, lace, etc. You can also use digitally-printed photographic negative instead of an object to create full-resolution photographs. The Jacquard Cyanotype Sensitizer Set can be used on paper, wood and natural fabrics (silk, cotton, wool, hemp, linen, canvas, leather).
The Jacquard Cyanotype Sensitizer Set contains two solutions Part A and B. To use fill each bottle with water, shake and allow 24 hours for the powders to dissolve. In subdued lighting, mix equal parts of the two solutions Part A and B. Mix only the amount you require as the mixed sensitizer is stable for only 2-4 hours. Coat the mixture on paper or fabric using a brush or alternatively dip into the solution. Allow to air dry in the dark. The process can be repeated to achieve darker blue prints. Simply place the object on the sensitized surface and expose to sunlight (UV). Depending on conditions leave for 1-30 minutes to activate. When fully exposed the fabric or paper will be a bronze colour. When exposed, place into a tray or bucket of cold water, washing for at least 5 minutes and changing the water until it runs clear. When in the water, the image will transform from the bronze colour to a blue colour on the fabric or paper. Finally submerge the print into a diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide and rinse again. (if no hydrogen peroxide is available your print will oxidize in 24 hours). Air dry the print on a clothes line or lay flat on blotting paper or newsprint. Sensitized paper or fabric can be stored in a cool, dry environment in sealed bag for later use so why not create a batch to work on at a later time or use as an interesting and fun group activity!
When using The Jacquard Cyanotype Sensitizer Set, the prints created will be permanent and archival.
The set can make approximately 65 x 8” x 10” prints.
