Replica Medieval Style Bentwood Boxes Workshop
About this event

Long before the printing press and mass production of books personal and items, these were hand decorated. The Medieval period was not the dull greys and browns Hollywood would have us believe. Medieval manuscripts were vibrant and full of colour and light, making them some of the most prized and valuable items of the time. Decorated with elaborate designs, real gold manuscripts remain a visual feast even today.
Nadia has been studying this ancient art for the last 8 years along with the techniques and equipment used to produce them. Reproducing and keeping this extraordinary art form alive and sharing the lessons she’s learned along the way; Nadia aims to demystify Medieval Illumination and make it more accessible. Pigasus Illumination
Without the convenience of plastic and with glass being a highly prized commodity, Medieval people kept their most treasured items in wooden chests and small boxes due to the timber’s durability and availability. From large to small, many of these boxes remain today and show us that they were highly decorated and were items of beauty.
Learn some of the techniques and colours used in making these lovely little boxes and perhaps absorb a little bit of Medieval magic and history along the way.
