Pebeo Gedeo Alginate and Resin Plaster Hand Tutorial

You will need:

Steps:

  1. Add 1L of water to Pebeo Alginate Powder and mix quickly. (Don't worry about lumps; they won't make any difference to the end result.)
  2. Pour the mixture into the container.
  3. Place your hand into the Alginate mixture, get into a comfortable position, and wait for 10 minutes.
  4. Wiggle your hand to allow some air to circulate and then carefully remove your hand.
  5. Measure 333ml of water into a 1L plastic jug.
  6. Sprinkle Pebeo Gedeo Resin Plaster evenly over the water, adding it little by little.
  7. Tap the jug gently to help air bubbles escape to the surface, then let the plaster sit for 1 minute.
  8. Mix the plaster mixture very gently with a spatula, keeping the mixture smooth and avoiding the creation of air bubbles (tap the jug again to remove any remaining bubbles).
  9. Pour the plaster slowly into the Alginate mould; when the mould is half-filled, pause and tap the plaster container to ensure an even distribution. Fill the mould with plaster to the top (for a sturdy base, keep pouring to the top of the container).
  10. Wait for 1 hour for the resin plaster to set.
  11. Use a blunt butter knife to help separate the mould from the container (you may need to create a cut at the bottom of the container to let air in).
  12. Slowly cut a clean, vertical line down each side of the mould, making sure to check as you go.
  13. Remove the mould from the plaster by gently pulling it upwards (the mould should come off in 2 clean pieces).
  14. Add some colour to your plaster hand with Pebeo Studio acrylic paints!

If you wish to make another cast, put the 2 pieces back together as cleanly as possible into the container and pour in another batch of resin plaster!
