Winsor & Newton Professional Gesso is a fantastic medium for preparing your surfaces for painting with acrylic or oils, as well as pastels! Priming your canvas with professional gesso will allow your artworks to last longer, as well as improve adhesion of colour to your surface.
Winsor & Newton Professional Gesso offers excellent tooth for your surface, allowing for smoother colour laydown and adhesion. This gesso dries to a flexible and stable ground and is resistant to yellowing. The White Gesso Primer has a high level of pigmentation, offering excellent covering power. Meanwhile, the Clear Gesso Primer dries completely clear so it’s perfect for allowing the natural colours of your surface to shine through. Alternatively, make your own tinted gesso primers by adding acrylic colours to the Clear Gesso Primer.
To use, apply directly from the tin using a brush or paint roller to your chosen surface. Allow 24 hours for the primer to dry before painting. The method of application will affect the texture of your surface for painting, For example, using a soft brush or roller will give you a smooth surface for painting, while a more coarse bristled brush or palette knife will give a textured finish.
Mix a small amount of acrylic paint to Winsor & Newton Professional Gesso for tinted priming if desired.
